Principal’s Message

Welcome to the community of Mary MacKillop Catholic College Wakeley, a vibrant all-girls educational and faith community where students achieve academic excellence. Through a rich and varied curriculum, a focus on wellbeing and living the Josephite charism of respecting the dignity of all, we support every girl in achieving their best.

Our college vision, ‘To call young women to life, inspire a love of learning and empower them to make a difference in the world’, is realised through dynamic teaching, personalised learning and authentic engagement in faith and social justice.

It is my hope that the MacKillop education experienced by all our students enables them to lead a life of significance and success as faithful ambassadors of love, justice and excellence, who embrace their role in society with purpose, confidence and self-knowledge.

Mary MacKillop began her work in providing education for the young in 1866, when she established the first Josephite school in Penola, South Australia. By 1872, the Sisters of St Joseph had expanded their ministry to NSW, opening numerous schools in Bathurst.

The Sisters of St Joseph brought education to Vine Street, Fairfield in 1928 with the establishment of a primary school called St Joseph. In 1947, the school extended to junior secondary education and was named Rosary High School.

In 1991, due to increased enrolments with further extension to include Years 11 and 12, Mary MacKillop Catholic College was founded. Uniquely designed in the shape of the Josephite Cross, the college has modern facilities and an environment that provides a backdrop for learning.

The words of Mary MacKillop, “Never see a need without doing something about it”, guides and inspires our community. We continue her focus on providing access to education to all young people, including those who are underprivileged.

We witness our Catholic faith through prayer, liturgy and acts of social justice. The Eucharist and other special school liturgies and events are a wonderful opportunity for our students, together with the parish clergy, Sisters of St Joseph, parents and staff, to share our faith and build our community.

Mary MacKillop Catholic College resides in the parish of Smithfield. As such, we have strong links with the priests of St Gertrude’s Smithfield. We also appreciate the strong links we have with the priests of Our Lady of the Rosary, Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Cabramatta, Mary Immaculate, Bossley Park, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Mt Pritchard and Sacred Heart, Villawood, as well as those from the Syriac and Chaldean Churches. Our parish priests celebrate the Eucharist on college feast days and lead our weekly year group Masses, Adoration and Reconciliation. They support our students at retreats, reflection days and in Religious Education lessons.
